Dueling Pianos

We are so excited...this week we finished our first 5 weeks of piano lessons at the Piano Institute here in Fort Collins. And I mean we...Luke, Nathan and myself :-). As most of you know, Luke and Nathan LOVE music and they have been playing, singing, creating their own songs and music for years now. Luke's love is the guitar, both the acoustic and electric. Thanks to a friend of his cousin Tim, Luke now has an amplifier for his electric guitar. Nathan's love has always been the drums. We are now on the third set of drums, the current set being a full adult sized set. If you all remember, I use to talk about how much Nathan kicked when he was growing inside me. Now, I am absolutely convinced that he was drumming!!

With great advise from our family and friends, we decided that it was very important that the boys learn how to play the piano and read music. And then I thought, well if I am going to help them, I too must learn the piano. As it turns out, we are ALL loving our piano lessons. I even get special Princess stickers from my teacher, Dorothy :-).

The Piano Institute is great! We each have our own teachers with whom we have private lessons each week for 30 minutes. Every summer, the Institute rents out the Rialto Theatre in Loveland and the boys perform in a "professional" recital. They are currently learning how to walk on stage, pull up/push out the bench, sit at the piano, stand, bow and walk off stage. It will be a great experience for them and us as well. The adults have recitals as well, but thankfully I missed the adult recital when I was in Estes Park at our scrapbooking retreat :-). Next year I'll perform. When I can figure out how to put video on our blog, we will all play our best piano piece for you :-).

The Dueling Piano and individual photos of Luke and Nathan were taken at the Piano Institute. These are the pianos that are taken to the Rialto Theatre for the recital this summer. The photo of me is taken here at home at our own piano. We were blessed with a refurbished Yamaha which is in great condition. For those of you who are interested, we moved our furniture around in the dining room so we could place the piano in the corner. It works out very well and I love hearing piano music in our home.
